Q: Can I run the Hornet Windmill 16 bit release (Version 7.2) alongside the 32 bit version (Version 7.3)?

A: Yes you can but be aware that the 16 bit release Hornet installation can upset the 32 bit Hornet Windmill system settings. If you install Hornet Windmill version 7.3 or later the installation will preserve the earlier settings and all will be OK. If however you re-install the 16 bit (7.2 release) after the 32 bit (7.3 release) then the earlier settings will not be saved. To overcome this you sould make a copy of the Windows system file HORNET.INI (in the Windows directory) before installing the earlier release and then copy it back again after the installation. You must then manually edit the file to add the path settings for the 16 bit version as follows:

[Hornet]

SystemDir=c:\hornetw

AccessDir=c:\hornetw\access.hor

Modify the path names accordingly. You should leave the settings for System32Dir and System32Access unaltered as these are for the 32 bit version of Hornet Windmill.

The setting for DataDir is used in both version to locate the data projects and can be changed to suit. Do not include any entries here that include long pathnames (filenames longer than 8 characters or including spaces) if you wish to run the 16 bit release.

Finally you must add some extra reporting files (files with the .INS extension) into the UTIL.HOR directory of the 16 bit version (Release 7.2) Hornet system directory (usually c:\hornetw\util.hor) - these files will be found in the sub-directory \INS7_2 of the release CD-ROM. These extra files provide a link between the new suite of Standard Reports and the previous versions.

All project data files are compatible between the versions 7.2 (16 bit) and 7.3 (32 bit) of Hornet Windmill.
