The Client	Part of the Dimension Data Group, GK Electrical specialises in creating simple solutions to complex engineering design schemes. They have a distinguished track record in Commercial, Industrial, Process, Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Food environments, operating across a wide range of advancing technologies.
The Task	Optimisation of planning, design, installation and commissioning resources across multiple projects - together with improved management of project documentation and clearer illustration of the status of work in progress.
Background	At any given time, GK Electrical are managing the design and installation of many complex commercial and industrial projects. Key facets of successfully managing projects of this type are the effective control of project documentation - and visualisation and management of project costs and progress. After researching Project Management systems capable of handling both multiple complex projects and meeting their particular needs, the Company invited Hornet to offer a solution.

After researching Project Management systems capable of handling both multiple complex projects and meeting their particular needs, the Company invited Hornet to offer a solution.
What Hornet did	To achieve the required specification,Hornet; Added ‘Documents Received’ notes to a standard bar chart report as a series of coded flags or markers, showing for example: Site Instructions; Progress Reports; Meeting Minutes; Technical Information Requests; Free Issue Equipment; Correspondence; added document symbols on the same line as the task in the bar chart report. added an ability to list all documents associated with a group of tasks down a page - sorted into weekly intervals. added a solid fill feature (to represent work completed on a task) to bar charts drawn against a base line programme. added the functional ability to import progress values (dates of work, sections and man-hours logged) into Hornet from existing recording system data and list them in tabular format and show a histogram profile of completed and future workload.
The Outcome	GK Electrical now use Hornet extensively - both for internal project management and for presentation of project work to Customers. The Company now has a Project Management System that facilitates project document management and presentation of the information in a coherent way - internally and to Customers. The additional work-in-progress features are providing GK Electrical with a valuable additional progress monitoring and cost control tool that is helping them to maintain their competitive edge.
